Reflection seismic facies analysis pertaining to southern part of Katakhal syncline, Cachar Fold Belt, Assam, has brought out an anomalous zone of chaotic reflections bounded by high amplitude, continuous, correlatable reflection events. This anomalous zone displays an elliptical shape in plan view and is aligned with the associated folds. The genesis of this anomaly, developed along the eastern flank of the syncline, bracing the synclinal axis is assigned to the non piercement type of shale diapirism within Middle Bhuban Formation of Middle Miocene age. The geological model envisaged has further led to the delineation of supra and lateral diapiric traps in the overlying Upper Bhuban and Bokabil Formations of Mio-Pliocene age. The reconstruction of structural evolution has brought out a phase of inversion during Plio-Pleistocene where the anticlines within Miocene and Mia-Pliocene sequences turned into synclines. The delineated supra and lateral diapiric traps have not been obliterated during inversion episodes. The identified prospects are new type of plays to be tested in Cachar Fold Belt, and form a step forward in focusing the thrust areas of exploration on the gentler synclinal flanksKeywords

Identification and adaptation of rice genotypes with high nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) is a potential approach in optimizing N
requirements, lowering the cost of cultivation and reducing the environmental pollution through the reduction of nitrous oxide
emission in rice. Three rice genotypes differing in their NUE were grown in hydroponics and field conditions and characterized for
physiological, yield parameters and NUE indicators along with expression analysis under low and recommended nitrogen conditions.
Significant variations were observed in 18 physiological, yield parameters and 8 NUE indicators among genotypes confirming the
genotypic variability for the traits under low nitrogen conditions. Reduction of yield related parameters except thousand grain
weight were noted. Correlation analysis of various yield components explains the significance of total biomass for grain yield,
straw yield, N content in grain, straw and nitrogen absorption efficiency. Differential expression of OsNIA2 gene in NUE efficient
genotypes viz., in shoots of GQ25 and ischolar_mains of IR55178 in the present study suggests its possible role in N metabolism and is
encouraging for exploring the possibilities of improving nitrogen use efficiency in rice.

Rice, a widely grown crop all over the world provides food security to millions of people. The average productivity of rice in India is still low due to diversified environments under which it is being cultivated. Prediction and assessment of rice yields needs simplified precision models. A spatial rice decision support system (SRDSS) was designed by integrating ClimGen climate model and Oryza2000 crop model with soil and weather layers. This DSS facilitates input model parameters and geo-referenced maps to predict rice yield at polygon/pixel level. SRDSS is useful to researchers and planners not only in estimating rice yield but also to estimate optimum crop sowing dates and management practices to achieve target yield for the selected location. Further, SRDSS will be integrated with weather sensors to generate real time advisories to farmers at each level of decision making and to plan and achieve the targets of doubling the farmer’s income by 2022.Keywords
